In November 2023 i lost a dear friend. He was a beacon in my life, made me laugh, made me determined to finish highschool and continue to university. He was stabbed by his brother and to this day i havent gone to his frave. Not because j dont want to see him. But because i dont want to accept it. I first heard about a murder-suicide from the news, then i found out it was someone from my highschool. I only learned who it was when my mother rushed me to the ER because we thought my appendix ruptured. The nurses mentioned the mother of the boy who died. I asked "you mean the one whose brother jumped from the window?" They confirmed. With a shaking voice i asked them "is her surname by chance (last name)?" One of the nurses nodded and i had to ask her to help me lay down as my blood pressure dropped. I felt dizzy. I said i knew the boy. That he was my classmate. I cried like a small child with the nurse having to help me calm down so i wouldnt pass out. I miss him dearly. I still mesaage him on discord. And i am determined to go to his grave, light a candle and talk. Every time i see a boy in a red hoodie with shoulder length brunette hair my heart drops. Im sorry Ruben... I should've invited you over or something. I feel guilty for losing him.

"she told me that she shouldn't have let me get so attached to her, that this whole thing was a mistake, but how can it be a mistake that i don't have to wash my hands after i touch her?" i have never related to a single sentence more than this.

I come back here. It aids me in remembering I should not let go on love.

This is beyond just a poem for Oppie, this is a poem about how opportunity or someone may never be able to hear your love, how some people CAN'T receive the love, no matter how hard others try to help them hear it. It is far darker and sadder than just seeing Oppie pass. How lonely.. how lonely and scared could one be, pushing harder than they're meant to live, yet doing it all alone? Feeling all alone?

“How she didn’t have to take a photograph for 30 years to make a camera of a daughter” made me audibly gasp

A friends husband is a large tall, dark skinned Black man, and he said something that sounded strange at the time, he said when he leaves the house, he had to be careful how he carried himself, because people would see him as a threat, we were young and didn't understand at the time because he was just a big teddy of a man....Now unfortunately I understand what he was saying, and it's not fair and wrong to judge a Black man, without knowing him personally 😢

I have come back to this poem many times over the years. Understanding a different line every time. This is one of the best pieces of work there is to find.

This is a really old video when I'm stumbling across it but I'm literally crying right now. My first boyfriend. Clinical about consent. But he didn't care how he got consent. Manipulation, coercion, everything. "You would if you really loved me." "Can you not do this much for me?" "Please. Please. Please. Please. Please." God, I wish I had been more confident in my skin and beliefs and wants. I wish he doesn't get to do this to anyone else.

The nutritionist said I should eat root vegetables. Said if I could get down thirteen turnips a day I would be grounded, rooted. Said my head would not keep flying away to where the darkness lives. The psychic told me my heart carries too much weight. Said for twenty dollars she’d tell me what to do. I handed her the twenty. She said, “Stop worrying, darling. You will find a good man soon.” The first psycho therapist told me to spend three hours each day sitting in a dark closet with my eyes closed and ears plugged. I tried it once but couldn’t stop thinking about how gay it was to be sitting in the closet. The yogi told me to stretch everything but the truth. Said to focus on the out breath. Said everyone finds happiness when they care more about what they give than what they get. The pharmacist said, “Lexapro, Lamicatl, Lithium, Xanax.” The doctor said an anti-psychotic might help me forget what the trauma said. The trauma said, “Don’t write these poems. Nobody wants to hear you cry about the grief inside your bones.” But my bones said, “Tyler Clementi jumped from the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River convinced he was entirely alone.”
